Winery Becomes Leader of the 12-Pack June 15, 2007Acampo -- Woodbridge Winery is rolling out new packaging for consumers who prefer buying in bulk -- 12-pack cartons of wine in 187-milliliter or 6.32-ounce bottles. The winery in Acampo, just north of Lodi, claims to be the first in the nation to follow the lead of beer and soda marketers in using such packaging.Kevin Conner, marketing director for Woodbridge by Robert Mondavi, said he hopes it will duplicate the success among consumers of other beverages sold in 12-unit cardboard wrappers, which easily convert to dispensers."It made it much more convenient to refrigerate their (beverages) or shelve their (beverages) and we're looking to do the same thing with wine," Conner said Wednesday by telephone from his office in San Francisco. The 12-bottle packages of chardonnay, merlot and cabernet sauvignon are being introduced in retail stores this month.Jon Fredrikson, a wine-industry consultant with Gomberg, Fredrikson
